HI folks
Its hard to explain the anticipation and excitement one has when you are 2 days away from flying out with a group of photographers to witness one of the 7 wonders of the world,
The Great Wildebeest Migration in the Masai Mara Kenya.
There is a lot of prep work that needs to be done before you leave, the hardest part being a photographer is to decide what equipment to take.
I would love to take all my gear but weight restrictions are a reality on such a fly in safari 20kg max (my photographic gear i have chosen weighs in at 17.5)
I have opted for the following:
Bodies: canon MIII (for action shots)and 1DS mark III (still and landscapes)
the two bodies share the same battery system so I can save on weight by only taking one charger,
Lenses : I have opted for my 500 f/4 with a 1.4 converter to get enough reach at the Mara river crossings
a 70-200mm f/2.8 ISUSM for photos where we are close to the animals and some distant landscapes.
and a 17-40mm as my wide angle lens for landscapes.
I will be taking a light weight tripod and my laptop as well , then whatever weight range I have left will be used up with clothes.
First stop wil be Lake Nakuru famous for its millions of flamingoes and its arbireal lions
next stop Kitchwa Temba Masai Mara to photograph the migration
I will then be heading off to Kleins camp in the serangeti for 6 days
looking forward to the trip
